Behavioural Modification Process

This process offers tailored advice and support for your pets specific behavioural concerns and is adapted to suit your lifestyle and circumstances.

Vet Referral

Your primary veterinary surgeon will need to refer your pet to me for behavioural assessment and support. I will also require their medical history. This is important as we always need to take into account physical health when looking at mental and emotional health.

Forms to Complete

Vet Referral Form

Pre-Consult History Questionnaire for Dogs

Pre-Consult History Questionnaire for Cats

Behavioural Assessment

The first part of the assessment will consist of a brief history and personality assessment of your pet in the form of some questionnaires. This will give me an initial insight on you pet's likes, dislikes, their lifestyle habits and the current behavioural concern.

During the first consultation, I will be able to make a thorough assessment of the emotions and motivations behind your pets behaviour and by the end of the session (lasts approximately 2 hours), we will have devised the first stages of a behavioural modification plan.

Treatment Plan

Following the initial assessment, you will receive a full behavioural report and training plan via email within 5 working days. There will be step-by-step guides to help you work through the training.

The aim will be to review progress within 4-6 weeks, unless you require support sooner. Further follow up sessions can be arranged to suit the level of support you require. This is recommended at 6-8 week intervals.

You will receive a follow up report within 5 working days of every session which will include a summary of the progress made and the next steps for you to work on.

If you require a full behavioural modification plan, I will need a referral from your primary veterinary surgeon before we can get the process started. Please ask them to complete the vet referral form (see above) and email this, along with your pet's clinical history, to emcbehaviour@gmail.com.

As the owner, you will need to complete the relevant history questionnaire for your pet (see above).

General Behaviour and Training Advice

For more general behavioural quieries and/or advice on what level of support would be best for you and your pet, you can contact me by email: emcbehaviour@gmail.com. We can then arrange a 10 minute initial chat so that I can answer any questions you may have. General Behaviour or Training sessions do not necessarily require veterinary referral, however this may be requested if the behavioural concerns are become complex and require further assessment and longer term support.
